Lack of Housing and Dining Applicants Shows Shift in Employees’ Need

The aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a shift in Housing and Dining employee needs.

Housing and Dining Services has seen a lack of applicants since Spring 2020. Those in full-time positions express a desire for difference in the workplace atmosphere.

Full-time housing positions require the employees to live on campus, making it unappealing for applicants seeking a school and workplace balance.

Whitney Penn is a K-State Assistant Director in Housing and Dining. She says people eventually realize they need a balance between work and school, but K-State doesn't allow remote working for full-time housing positions.

Penn says Housing and Dining will have to make their positions appealing to the needs of future applicants.
